Imagine you are a mom and you hear your daughter say, “I want to have a bakery.” When your kids are young, you hear lots of different ideas about what they want to be when they grow up. These ideas change over time. Elise is no different. She used to talk about being a scientist, artist, or chef. However, over the last year, the idea of the bakery has not wavered. She knows she can bake.
My first instinct was that a bakery is not at all realistic. I know this because my husband owns and operates a restaurant. I told her over and over again that she needs to focus on her education and see what happens. You would do the same thing, right?
Well, long story short, I changed my mind. I have been in the education field for while and saw the research over and over again that real experiences that apply the concepts you have learned give you a depth of learning that cannot be surpassed. One of the ways I can do that is to respond to the entrepreneurial spirit that Elise was expressing. So, instead of a store on main street, we are working together with this online bakery. Fun right?
Actually, much to my surprise, she and I are having a lot of fun. I grew up baking with my mom. It is part of my family history. It was not a conscious decision to teach her to bake. It was what you do. It brings people together. It is part of the celebration of life. So I hope this teaches Elise something but I have a feeling she is going to teach me a lot too.
We hope you enjoy the taste of our journey!
